Boston Builds Credit is a citywide movement to close the racial wealth gap by fostering financial resilience, dismantling systemic and institutional inequities, and making credit accessible to all Bostonians.
Drawing together partners from all sectors of civic life—including residents, community-based organizations, public officials, businesses, and financial institutions—we’re breaking down barriers, advancing safe and affordable credit-building products, and empowering Boston residents to achieve a prime credit score and build wealth. We’re doing this by focusing on credit building as a key component of the journey toward financial success.
Our Vision Statement
Boston Builds Credit envisions a Boston where all residents, regardless of race, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status, are empowered to reach their financial goals without systemic and institutional barriers to success.
Our Structure
BBC is a collective impact initiative that draws together partners from all sectors—residents, business, government, non-profits and financial institutions—to advance our vision and mission.
Boston Builds Credit’s leadership structure is made up of three core parts: The BBC Director / Leadership Team (Working Credit lead agency), the BBC Backbone, and the committees. BBC has ambitious goals, but we can’t reach them alone, so both the Backbone and BBC’s committees are designed to share power with our cross-sector partners and Boston residents (CAC).
BBC Backbone
Responsible for the overall oversight, governance, and strategic decision-making of BBC.
Community Advisory Council (CAC)
Responsible for bringing community voice and lived experience into BBC’s work and helping guide the priorities and decisions of other BBC committees.
Service Delivery
Responsible for strengthening collaboration among service providers to better align, connect, and improve the impact of credit-building services across Boston.
Systems Change
Responsible for identifying and challenging structural barriers through advocacy, policy, and systems-level coordination that advances BBC’s mission.
Safe Products
Responsible for expanding access to safe and affordable credit-building products by partnering with financial institutions to develop and promote non-extractive financial products.
